The administration of NHMC would like to bring the facts on record regarding the different videos in circulation by Mr. Faisal Azeem (husband of deceased patient Uzma) about the patient’s Covid-19 status and her treatment accordingly. Primarily it must be noted that NHMC doesn’t have its own laboratory. It is outsourced to Chughtai Lab. The “negative” Covid 19 test result of Mrs. Uzma was reported by Chughtai Lab for which the sample was from nasopharynx, taken by their lab technician. She was also tested by Shaukat Khanum Lab. They took sample from tracheal secretions considering it to be more authentic and hence, reported to be “positive”. However, Chughtai Lab took a stand and reassured Mr Faisal that the Chughtai Lab result was the correct one, as a result to which the gentleman did not let his wife stay in the Covid ICU.
Hospital administration didn’t want to get into any controversy with regards to the lab results, considering the critical condition of the patient.
Unfortunately, the patient lost her life after a struggle for survival. Every effort was made by the team of expert consultants at NHMC. However it is emphasized that medical team consisting of qualified doctors left no stone unturned to treat Mrs. Uzma who unfortunately succumbed to this epidemic, COVID 19. The Hospital administration extends its condolences to the deceased family. May her soul rest in peace.
COVID 19 has a diagnostic criteria which includes patients medical history, examination and investigations. The PCR test has accuracy of 60%. It’s again reiterated that the hospital has got nothing to do with the COVID 19 lab results as it has outsourced all laboratory testing to Chughtai Lab.
